Hakim was born in a small town in Minya, Egypt in 1962. He put together a band when he was only 14 years old and they sang at small parties in their home town.
He could not however pursue his dreams of becoming a famous singer out of respect for his father, the Omda, and instead enrolled in the University of Al-Azhar.
Finally he graduated with a degree in Communications and went back to his town. Now it was time for him to follow his dream and thus he put together a second band with the aim of playing a different kind of music that would mix the Western and the Middle Eastern styles.
But his town was too small for his big aspirations so he packed his bags and was off to Cairo once more - but this time as a wannabe singer.
Hakim's big break finally came when he met the big producer Hamid El-Shaeri and got a deal with a records company in 1991. The young singer released his first album ever, Nazra, a year later. The album was an instant hit due to the new music it contained.
In 1994, Hakim launched his second album Nar and his popularity soared to the sky. That was not the only good thing that happened that year though; as he was also chosen to represent Egypt at a festival in France. This now famous figure was definitely on a roll now.
His next album Efred, witnessed the same success as the previous ones had, when it hit the markets in 1996. Then two years went by and his new album; Hayel saw the light.
Hakim won more international recognition when he won the Best North African Singer Award in 2000 and became known abroad - as well as in the Arab region. In the same year he released his hit album Yaho. Then in 2002 he launched a new album Talakek which included the smashing duet "Ya Albi" with the Puerto Rican female singer Olga Tanon.
His latest album El Yomen Dol also presented something new; namely the duet "Lela" with the famous American singer James Brown. As for the silver screen, Hakim also has plans for invading it. He dreams of getting his share of the spotlights too, as an actor, and has thus accepted a leading role in the film Ali Spicy and is getting ready to shoot his role once the details are worked out.
